157 government and enterprise websites and well-known apps became "springboards" for pornographic content; hacker sentenced for using cryptocurrencies to conceal illegal gains
Odaily reported that on April 23, the Qujiang District People's Procuratorate of Quzhou City, Zhejiang Province, initiated a public prosecution, and the court sentenced the defendant Zhou to four years and four months in prison and imposed a fine for the crime of illegally controlling computer information systems. Zhou accepted the verdict, which has now taken effect. From August 2023 to June 2025, Zhou exploited website security vulnerabilities to illegally gain control over more than 150 servers, causing links generated by these servers to automatically redirect to overseas pornographic websites, and sold the access rights for profit. A total of 157 government and enterprise websites and well-known apps were affected.
Zhou's illegal gains were all settled in USDT, TRX, and other virtual currencies, which were scattered and hidden across multiple crypto wallets.
