Analyst: Prospects for US-Iran Negotiations Remain Fragile
Analyst Madison Cartwright of the Commonwealth Bank of Australia stated in a research report that the prospects for US-Iran negotiations remain fragile. Cartwright noted, "There are reasons to suggest that a diplomatic momentum currently exists, which could lead to an agreement that restarts navigation through the Strait of Hormuz," but the relevant details remain unclear. Cartwright also added that there have been recent small-scale clashes between the two sides.
Cartwright pointed out that key questions remain regarding the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz for navigation, including the amount of insurance required for vessels transiting the strait and whether Iran will levy transit fees. Despite this, Cartwright believes the US currently has little incentive to resume hostilities; on the contrary, the US has shown a willingness to make concessions while continuing to apply economic and political pressure.
