F2Pool co-founder Wang Chun: Joining the Mars flyby to remind SpaceX not to stray from its vision, and that the landing plan should not be left to the next generation

2026-05-23 08:34

Odaily reports that F2Pool co-founder Wang Chun explained on X platform the reasons for his decision to join the first crewed Mars flyby aboard Starship. He stated that with the unveiling of Starship V3, humanity is one step closer to becoming a "multi-planetary species." During the Fram2 training, aside from content related to the Dragon spacecraft, one of the most discussed topics among the team was "how to reliably perform a landing on Phobos."

Although three months ago Elon Musk announced that SpaceX would shift its focus more towards the Moon and believed that with the development of AI data centers, space commercialization might eventually find a viable path, Wang Chun argues that the goal should be Mars, not the Moon. He is not confident that humanity can truly land on Mars within this generation's lifetime, and therefore hopes to personally drive this process forward.

Wang Chun added that he hopes to give SpaceX a "reason not to forget about Mars" by purchasing a Mars flyby mission, emphasizing that "the Mars plan should not be postponed to the next generation." While this mission will not attempt to land on Phobos, every great exploration begins with a first step. "I hope this mission can prove to the public that Mars is not just a point of light in a telescope, but a real world that humanity can reach, visit, and return from safely."
