US media: Iran implements new regulations for the Strait of Hormuz, requiring vessels to declare to the "Persian Gulf Strait Authority" before passing
According to a report by CNN, a document shows that Iran has formulated a series of new rules for vessels wishing to pass through the Strait of Hormuz, ignoring U.S. warnings and continuing its efforts to institutionalize control over the waterway. The document, titled "Vessel Information Declaration," was issued by Iran's newly established "Persian Gulf Strait Authority" (PGSA) and must be filled out by all transit vessels to ensure safe passage. The PGSA document contains over 40 questions, requiring vessels to declare their name, identification number, former name, country of origin, and destination. The document also requires the declaration of the registered owner, operator, and crew nationality, as well as cargo details. This information must be submitted via email before transiting the strait. A PGSA email stated, "Complete and accurate information is crucial for processing vessel passage applications" and "any consequences arising from incorrect or incomplete information provided by the applicant shall be borne by the applicant alone." It is currently unclear whether any shipping companies have applied to the PGSA for passage permits. Analysts point out that this move could expose shipping companies to the risk of U.S. sanctions.
