Polymarket "Probability of Hantavirus Pandemic in 2026" Drops to 7%, Down 28% This Week

2026-05-10 08:42

The Odaily Seer Channel reports that Polymarket's prediction event for a "hantavirus pandemic in 2026" has seen its probability drop to 7%, marking a 28% decline this week.

The settlement criteria for this event are based on official announcements from the World Health Organization (WHO). If the WHO, in any official public statement made before 11:59 PM EST on December 31, 2026, explicitly classifies hantavirus, hantavirus pulmonary syndrome (HPS), hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome (HFRS), or a hantavirus-related outbreak as a "pandemic," the market will resolve to "Yes." Otherwise, it will resolve to "No."

According to reports, Dr. Maria Van Kerkhove, Acting Director of the WHO Department of Epidemic and Pandemic Preparedness and Prevention, stated that the current risk to the public from hantavirus remains low. Personnel aboard the cruise ship "Hondeus," where a hantavirus outbreak occurred, are to be evacuated. She recommended active monitoring and follow-up for all disembarked passengers and crew for a period of 42 days. Dr. Van Kerkhove made these remarks during a hantavirus symposium, noting that the 42-day monitoring period should be calculated from their last contact with confirmed or suspected hantavirus infection cases.

The Odaily Seer Channel continues to monitor the prediction market, seeing changes before they are priced in.
