Anthropic to Raise Tens of Billions of Dollars, Valuation Could Near Trillion, Surpassing OpenAI
Odaily reported that, according to the Financial Times, Anthropic is considering raising tens of billions of dollars this summer to fund a massive expansion of computing power, a move that would see its valuation soar to nearly $1 trillion, surpassing rival OpenAI.
Five sources familiar with the matter said the developer of Claude, which was valued at $380 billion in February, has attracted interest from investors including Dragoneer, General Catalyst, and Lightspeed Venture Partners as its revenue continues to grow. These people estimate that Anthropic's annualized revenue (projected for the full year based on recent weeks' data) is about to surpass $45 billion — a fivefold increase from $9 billion at the end of last year. Three of them stated that the new funding round is expected to value Anthropic at approximately $900 billion pre-money, raising up to $50 billion. They added that the round could close within two months.
After OpenAI completed a record-breaking $122 billion funding round in March, its post-money valuation stood at $852 billion. (Jin Shi)
