Korean Public Questions Single-Stock Leveraged ETFs: 63.7% Believe Launch Was a “Wrong Decision”

According to a survey conducted by Korean polling agency Realmeter on July 22 among 504 adults aged 18 and over nationwide, the Korean public holds a clearly negative view on the launch of single-stock leveraged ETFs. The survey shows that 63.7% of respondents believe introducing single-stock leveraged ETFs was a “wrong decision,” with 41.2% considering it “very wrong” and 22.5% “generally wrong.” In contrast, 19.0% deemed the decision correct, while 17.4% answered “unsure.”

Regarding the supplementary measures for single-stock leveraged ETFs announced by Korean financial regulators on the 16th, 59.2% of respondents considered them “insufficient.” Among suggestions for further improvement, “limiting the number of daily tradable times” received the highest support at 24.1%, followed by “significantly raising base margin requirements” (22.2%), “significantly raising minimum trading unit requirements” (21.5%), and “expanding mandatory investor education time” (10.6%).
