Bitcoin will undergo an eCash hard fork on August 21

2026-07-23 10:15

In April this year, Bitcoin developer Paul Sztorc announced that the Bitcoin eCash hard fork would be activated at block height 963,648 (around August 21), launching a new chain named eCash. Meanwhile, eCash will airdrop its native token, ECX, at a 1:1 ratio to all Bitcoin addresses holding BTC before block height 963,648. No registration or pre-claim is required, but users need to transfer their BTC to eCash's self-custodial wallet. As of now, the support rate for this hard fork within the Bitcoin community is relatively low.

Notably, Bitcoin will also undergo the BIP-110 soft fork in August. At block height 961,632 (around August 7), BIP-110 enters a mandatory enforcement period, and at block height 963,648 (around September 1), the BIP-110 soft fork will be officially activated.
