Iran: Future Hormuz Navigation to Be Negotiated Between Iran and Oman

Odaily Planet Daily News On July 12, Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Baghaei today (July 12) briefed on Iranian Foreign Minister's recent visit to Oman and talks. Iranian and Omani foreign ministers held talks in Muscat, the capital of Oman, on the 11th, discussing the coordination mechanism for navigation and traffic management in the Strait of Hormuz, with legal and technical delegations from both countries participating. Baghaei stated that the two sides focused on exchanging views on ensuring safe navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, respecting the sovereign rights of both countries, and the application of international law. They also discussed relevant provisions of Article 5 of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding. Iran emphasized that future arrangements for navigation management in the Strait of Hormuz should be formulated through negotiations between Iran and Oman, taking full account of the military actions by the United States and Israel against Iran over the past few months and their impact on the safety of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz. Baghaei noted that Iran and Oman agreed to continue consultations at the political, legal, and technical levels to reach a common understanding on navigation safety in the Strait of Hormuz. It was reported that a delegation from the Qatari government also participated in discussions during some parts of the talks. (CCTV International News)
