Meta denies AI computing power surplus, stating that renting out computing power can sometimes be more valuable than internal use

2026-07-10 03:06

Odaily Planet Daily News Meta CEO Zuckerberg stated that the company is considering renting out some of its AI computing power to external customers, noting that some external offers are so high that Meta believes renting out computing power may be more valuable than keeping it for internal use.

Zuckerberg emphasized that Meta does not have a surplus of AI computing power, and the company is currently making full use of its existing computing resources. He added that almost no company in the industry believes it has enough computing power.

It was introduced that Meta is exploring two types of cloud service models: one involves hosting its own or third-party AI models and charging based on calls, while the other directly sells basic computing power, similar to the model of AI cloud computing company CoreWeave.

In addition, Meta has recently opened its Meta Model API and started charging for Muse Spark 1.1. Zuckerberg also mentioned that SpaceX's short-term model of renting computing power to external companies is "very interesting," and Meta will also evaluate similar high-value transaction opportunities.
