Samsung and SK Hynix reportedly take the lead in demanding price cuts from substrate manufacturers

2026-07-03 04:23

Odaily Planet Daily News: According to reports from the Korea Printed Circuit Board & Semiconductor Packaging Industry Association (KPCA), Samsung and SK Hynix, envious of the upstream substrate manufacturers frequently raising prices due to market supply shortages, are planning to demand price cuts from substrate makers. In the latest price negotiations with substrate suppliers, they are requesting a reduction in quotes, intending to withdraw the average price increase of approximately 3% to 4% for the first quarter of this year.

It is understood that the reason Samsung and SK Hynix are advocating for price cuts is due to the increase in raw material costs for gold, copper, etc. earlier this year, which led them to accept a roughly 3% to 4% price hike from substrate manufacturers. However, as recent fluctuations in raw material prices have eased, they believe the factor for the price increase has disappeared, and quotes for the second half of the year should return to the levels before the price hike.
