Iranian Parliament Speaker Says Being Prepared for War is Key to Negotiation

2026-07-01 09:52

Odaily Planet Daily News, local time June 30, Iran's chief negotiator and parliament speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf said in an interview that Iran is determined to uphold the memorandum of understanding, but if the U.S. refuses to implement the consensus, Iran is ready for war. Ghalibaf stated that negotiating with the U.S. is not like talking to a friend, but negotiating with an enemy that has no credibility; whenever an opportunity arises, the U.S. will certainly strike Iran again. Therefore, only by being prepared for war can one negotiate effectively.

Additionally, Ghalibaf refuted during the interview the claim that "Iran's unfrozen funds can only be used to purchase U.S. agricultural products." He described this as "completely inaccurate," stating that according to the memorandum of understanding, Iran has the right to independently manage the unfrozen funds. (CCTV International News)
