Oman Foreign Minister: Does Not Support Tolls for the Strait of Hormuz

2026-06-29 14:56

Odaily Planet Daily News: The Omani Ministry of Foreign Affairs released content from a recent interview with Foreign Minister Badr. Badr stated that Oman is always committed to ensuring a safe, peaceful, and free navigation environment in the Strait of Hormuz for all parties. He pointed out that Oman and Iran have reached a consensus in ongoing dialogues that any future arrangements concerning the Strait of Hormuz must be conducted within the framework of international law.

Regarding the internationally concerned issue of transit fees, Badr stated that Oman does not support levying tolls on transiting vessels, but he did not rule out exploring mechanisms related to maritime services. Badr said that discussions could be held on enhancing navigation safety, improving maritime accident emergency response capabilities, and preventing marine pollution, drawing on practices adopted in other straits. He stated that such arrangements would be negotiated with countries and shipping companies that use the Strait of Hormuz shipping lane. Their purpose is to improve maritime services and ensure navigation safety, not to add new burdens to global trade. (CCTV News)
