Iran's Foreign Ministry: Potential U.S.-Iran Understanding Only for Continued Dialogue, Not a Final Agreement

2026-06-13 14:48

Odaily Planet Daily News Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei said on the 13th that any potential understanding reached between Iran and the United States is only intended to promote continued dialogue between the two sides, not a final agreement; the unfreezing of Iran's frozen assets will be an indispensable part of any U.S.-Iran understanding. According to a report by the Iranian Students' News Agency (ISNA), Baghaei told a meeting with media figures that Iran's current focus is on ending the war on all fronts and regional tensions, and at this stage, it will not delve into the details of the nuclear issue. He stated that the only way to achieve regional security is to end the presence of foreign military forces in the region.

Baghaei emphasized that the issue of unfreezing Iran's assets is an important component of the understanding and will not be excluded. Topics currently under discussion also include eliminating hostile U.S. actions against Iranian ships and issues related to the Strait of Hormuz. Baghaei said Iran will act with the utmost prudence in advancing negotiations and diplomatic processes, while maintaining vigilance based on past experience. If the other party refuses to fulfill its obligations, Iran can take countermeasures. (Xinhua News Agency)
