Expert Analysis: The Content and Effectiveness of the US-Iran Ceasefire Memorandum Are Relatively Limited

2026-06-13 08:38

Odaily Planet Daily News: Qin Tian, Deputy Director of the Middle East Research Institute at the China Institutes of Contemporary International Relations, stated that based on information currently disclosed, the ceasefire memorandum to be signed between the United States and Iran may be relatively limited in both content and effectiveness, making it a relatively weak agreement. First, there are differing interpretations and expressions of the text between the two sides. Second, the memorandum has not provided a clear or thorough solution to some key contradictions and critical issues between the US and Iran, which will need to be addressed in the next stage of negotiations. Third, potential skirmishes between the two sides, including interference from Israel, could disrupt subsequent talks. Currently, a military standoff persists between the US and Iran in the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz. Meanwhile, in the Lebanese conflict zone, Israel continues to strike Hezbollah forces in southern Lebanon, which could escalate into greater clashes and conflicts between Iran and Israel, negatively impacting future negotiations.
