Japanese Liberal Democratic Party Lawmakers' Alliance Submits Web3 Policy Proposal, Calls for Inclusion of Blockchain in National Strategy

2026-06-02 04:50

Odaily Planet Daily News: The Japanese Liberal Democratic Party's Blockchain Promotion Parliamentary Alliance submitted a policy proposal to Finance Minister Katsunobu Kato on June 1, calling for the explicit inclusion of blockchain and Web3 in the national strategy.

The proposal covers multiple areas including tax reform, crypto ETFs, leverage trading regulations, unregistered operators, crypto asset strategy, and trade logistics. Among them, the proposal suggests further research on the selection mechanism between "aggregate taxation" and "self-assessment separate taxation" for crypto assets, and explores tax treatment methods for crypto-to-crypto exchanges and inheritance.

In terms of derivative regulation, the proposal argues that the current 2x upper limit for individual crypto leverage trading is too low and recommends gradually raising the leverage level in conjunction with a margin management system. At the same time, the proposal also calls for clarifying the institutional positioning of crypto ETFs and strengthening enforcement cooperation with overseas regulatory agencies.

Minister Kato indicated that the government will actively promote the establishment of relevant systems, including advancing the implementation of crypto ETFs and studying the implementation of a new tax system in January 2028. (Coinpost)
