US media interprets Trump's "Freedom Plan" as "guiding" rather than "escorting"
Odaily Planet Daily reported that US media outlets such as The Wall Street Journal, CNN, and Axios have emphasized that Trump chose to use the word "Guide" rather than "Escort" when describing how his new naval mission would operate in the Strait of Hormuz. The Wall Street Journal reported that US officials stated the mechanism "currently does not involve US Navy warships escorting ships through the strait."
CNN cited a US official saying the plan "is not an escort mission" and stated that the US military would "guide stranded ships." Axios quoted a US official saying that US Navy vessels would be "on standby nearby" in case Iran attacks merchant ships. CNN noted that the plan "leaves many unanswered questions," and one expert suggested its purpose is likely to make merchant ships "feel safe." (Jin Shi)
