Bitcoin miner Core Scientific transforms into an AI data center, advancing its 1.5GW data center project
Odaily Planet Daily News Bitcoin miner Core Scientific announced the transformation of its mining facility in Pecos, Texas, into a high-density AI colocation data center, with a planned total power capacity of 1.5GW, of which approximately 1GW can be leased externally. As part of this transformation, about 300MW of mining capacity at the site will be reallocated for data center operations. The first data hall has completed foundation work and entered the main construction phase, with an expected commissioning date in early 2027.
To support the expansion plan, the company has acquired over 200 acres of land locally and plans to raise over $4 billion in total through a $3.3 billion issuance of senior secured notes and a previously secured $1 billion credit facility from Morgan Stanley, to advance data center construction in Texas, Georgia, North Carolina, and Oklahoma.
