Ethereum fees hit record levels. A Uniswap user paid $36,000 in gas for a transaction, well above the current price.
Twitter has been filled with complaints about unaffordable fees for using the Ethereum network, but the fees have led one DeFi user to make a mistake.
The sky-high deal was tweeted by the co-founder and CTO of Groundhog Network, who confirmed that the deal is related to Uniswap.
The charge turned out to be a typo, as the user manually entered two gwei prices at the same time. The cost of 500,801 gwei should have been entered for one (500gwei) and the other (801gwei). The price went up to 24.94 ETH, which is about $36,000.
Average Ethereum transaction fees have soared more than 1,000% since the beginning of the year and are now at an all-time high of around $40, according to Bitinfocharts.com. The Ethereum gas tracker report shows that the average ERC-20 transfer fee is now $23.85, and the average Uniswap exchange fee is $73.79.
Ethereum Improvement Proposal EIP-1559 may help alleviate some of these fee issues, and the developer hinted that it may launch Ethereum Improvement Proposal EIP-1559 in the "London" fork.
