➤ Receive test coins to use Arbitrum Rollup's DeFi demo

Arbitrum Rollup, a Layer 2 solution, launched a testnet dashboard, showing its DeFi demo on the testnet for the first time. The dApps ready to be built on Arbitrum are: Bancor, Bounce, Burgerswap, Hop, MCDEX, and Swapr.

In addition to dApps, the wallets supported by Arbitrum include MetaMask, MathWallet, Burner, Portis, Fortmatic and WalletConnect, and also include Chainlink, Ankr, Blocknative, The Graph, Truffle, Hardhat, ethers.js, web3.js, Brownie and other projects for Arbitrum Provide infrastructure.

➤ How Optimism implements deposit and withdrawal between L1 and L2

• Although the Layer 2 solution Optimism released its soft launch on the mainnet on January 16, and Synthetix also deployed the staking function on Optimistic Ethereum, there are still many users who do not know how the migration between L1 and L2 is realized. @bkiepuszewski posted a thread explaining:

• Initial settings: On L1, there is a bridge SyntheticBridgeToOptimism provided by Synthetic and OVM_L1CrossDomainManager provided by the Optimism contract, while there are SynthetixBridgeToBase and OVM_L2_CrossDomainManager contracts on L2. In addition, there are Sequencers (L2 mining nodes) to verify all L2 transactions and package and submit them to L1, and relayers are responsible for forwarding information from L2 to L1.

• Step 1: If Alice wants to deposit SNX tokens into L2, she needs to call the initiateDeposit() method on L1 SyntheticBridgeToOptimism to retrieve her SNX, place it in escrow, and then call the OVM_L1CrossDomainManager sendMessage() method. CrossDomainManager sends the request to the CanonicalTransactionChain (the list shows all L2 transactions on L1). Sequencer will then execute these transactions on L2. This will require calling the completeDeposit() method on L2 SyntheticBridgeToBase to mint L2's SNX to Alice.

• Step 2: Enjoy low-fee transactions on L2. The Sequencer of L2 submits the L2 transaction package to L1, and all transactions will be displayed in the CanonicalTransactionChain.

• Step 3: If Alice wants to withdraw her SNX from L2 to L1, she needs to call the initiateWithdrawal() method of L2 SynthetixBridgeToBase, which allows the transaction information to be sent to L1 through OVM_L2_CrossDomainManager. At this time, CrossDomainManager changes its state, causing Sequencer to submit the new L2 state to L1.

• Step 5: After the FraudProofWindow is passed, the repeater can finally transfer the transaction information from L2 to the SynthetixBridgeToOptimism contract. Therefore, OVML1CrossDomainManager can ensure that the transaction information is submitted to CanonicalTransactionChain by Sequencer. Finally, L1CrossDomainManager will call the completeWithdrawal() method of SynthetixBridgeToOptimism, and the escrowed L1 SNX tokens will be returned to Alice.

The Reddit forum announced its first-ever blockchain partnership with the Ethereum Foundation on Jan. 28. Reddit said that through this cooperation, they will increase their investment in blockchain resources, accelerate the expansion of the Ethereum ecosystem and provide resources, and bring the value and independence of blockchain technology to more Reddit users. The cooperation between the two parties started with the Scaling Bake-off plan, and the current work is to create a Reddit scaling application on Ethereum. This work has actually started with the Community Points project introduced last year, hoping to give community users more ownership and earn benefits through their contributions (posts and comments).

Considering that the new crown epidemic is still tense, the Ethereum Foundation blog announced on January 26 that it has decided to postpone Devcon, which was originally scheduled to be held in Bogota in August 2021, to ensure that more people can participate safely.
