Can Polkadot (DOT) invest?
In a recent reader message, some readers asked: Don’t you want to talk about Polkadot? Because of the surge during this period, the market value currently ranks fourth.
In fact, I have talked about the Polkadot currency several times in previous articles. But when I saw this question again this time, I remembered my thinking about cross-chain projects and the process of changing my mind in this field.
First of all, I have great respect for this project and its founder, Dr. Gavin Wood. He is not only the founder of Polkadot but also the co-founder of Ethereum. His key role in the development of Ethereum and the solution of one fatal problem after another for Ethereum will surely make him shine in history. He is a genius in technology development, but also very charming in personality.
I have read Polkadot’s white paper, and I have a general understanding of Polkadot’s technical framework. In terms of technical style, Polkadot has a lot of shadows of Ethereum, or both Ethereum and Polkadot have been deeply imprinted with his brand and style. . I don't doubt Polkadot's purely technological advancement at all.
But technology is only part of a project's long-term success, not even the critical part. For a blockchain public chain or underlying platform to be successful, its direction and logic are more important than technology.
EOS is not bad in terms of pure technology, but its problems lie in the direction and logic. A few years ago, when the vast majority of people in the industry believed that EOS would surpass Ethereum, some people opposed EOS. There were two main grounds for objection:
One is that the founder BM will always abandon the project due to his past personality, which will lead to problems in the subsequent development of EOS. Therefore, although this project is very good, its subsequent development may not be able to keep up.
The other thinks that EOS itself has problems in terms of direction and logic, so even if the technology of this project is very good, and BM continues to do it, it will come to a dead end.
I hold the second point of view, so when EOS was still in full swing, I sold it without hesitation. I remember that EOS continued to rise for quite a while after the sell-off.
I also have a similar cognitive process for Polkadot and cross-chain. As early as when the first cross-chain project Astro Boy (ATOM) was launched, I appreciated the concept of cross-chain very much, and bought its tokens immediately. But then as I learned more and more, I gradually became suspicious of cross-chain.
At the end of 2019 and the beginning of 2020, internal strife broke out in the Astro Boy (ATOM) team, and the founder turned out to be the one who left. When I saw the news, I immediately thought that the fundamentals of this project had deteriorated, so I did not hesitate to dump the token. After I dumped it, it still maintained a rising trend for a period of time.
The infighting of Astro Boy (ATOM) prompted me to continue thinking about cross-chain issues. The more I thought about it, the more I thought that there might be problems with this logic, either this direction may be false demand or there may be demand in this direction, but the market for this demand is far from It is as huge as the industry expects. Therefore, I did not invest in any cross-chain projects.
Although I have not reinvested in any cross-chain projects, I am still paying attention to this field. At that time, I thought that only two would win in the entire cross-chain field: Astro Boy and Polkadot. Now that the Astro Boy has been drained, Napoca will definitely (you can find my article in early 2020 to see my comments on this matter at the time) become a well-deserved king. It will definitely attract attention in the future and become a super popular king.
Later, Polkadot launched a public offering, was listed on the exchange, and split, and it was logically called the king of cross-chains.
I haven't invested in it all the way, but I have been paying attention to it. I still think this direction is far from as good as everyone expected, so no matter how high Polkadot rises, I will only pay attention and will not buy, unless the ecology of the industry changes drastically, which makes me change my current view.
Regarding the development of Polkadot in the future, I believe that its ecology will continue to develop, its technology will improve, and its price will reach new highs, but these are not the reasons for me to buy.
If I am not optimistic about the varieties, I will not buy them.
I want to remind everyone that this is just my personal point of view, and my point of view may be wrong. I wrote my thinking process mainly not to influence everyone's views on Polkadot, but to emphasize again that we must think carefully about any investment in any variety, and only the decision made after careful thinking is a safe and secure decision Only in this way can we not be disturbed by market emotions and keep ourselves rational and independent.
