This is the first Ethereum 2.0 fined by Slash: Validator 20075.
With the large-scale upgrade that the entire Ethereum community has prepared for many years, it is launched. In the camp that supports the ETH 2.0 upgrade, "improving security through Proof of Stake (PoS)" is one of the important reasons. Changes in security were also the first to show up in this punishment.
Under the eyes of the community, investors, miners, etc., the first person to eat crabs seems to have attracted much attention. Some people called him "unlucky" and others called him "lucky". Regardless, the latest example of a textbook ETH 2.0 has emerged.

What did validator 20075 do?
According to public information, the reason for the first validator to be penalized is the proposer (Proposer), who was fined by Slash, which means that the validator selected two different blocks in one slot.
"This kind of behavior is called 'double signing'. This is not a program bug, either because of a node operator's misoperation, or his malicious behavior," InfStones marketing director Rudy explained to Blocklike.
The word Slash has the meaning of "cut; substantially cut" in English. In the field of blockchain, Slash usually refers to the unique penalty mechanism of the blockchain that adopts the PoS consensus mechanism. This concept was first proposed by Vitalik Buterin, the founder of Ethereum, in January 2014. At that time, someone simply translated the mechanism as "tokens deducted from mortgages." Behaviors that may trigger Slash penalties mainly include forks, double signatures, long-term offline, etc. Some blockchains also include voting status in the assessment criteria.
In the latest ETH 2.0, the purpose of the Slash penalty mechanism is to eliminate potential network attacks by punishing and leaking misbehaving validators.

"If unexpected accidents such as home network interruption, power outage, and moving bring the ETH 2.0 nodes offline, then most nodes are destined to actively choose the operation mode controlled by various node services and large mining pools. The savings, but in the end, the nodes are still running in the regions where the cost of extremely centralized cloud services such as Amazon and Microsoft Azure is the lowest.”
