ETH2.0 will be officially launched on December 1
Ethereum officially released the confirmed news: ETH2.0 will be launched on December 1st!
Profit opportunities that ETH2.0 may bring
For individual participants and investors, there may be these opportunities:
Become a verification node and get POS benefits.
Token investment opportunities for ETH2.0 third-party verification service providers.
ETH2.0 concept project investment opportunity.
These directions are not so speculative, but they are all worthy of long-term follow-up.
Vitalik's AMA on ETH2 POS
Vitalik personally answered the design rules of ETH2.0, staking, sharding, etc. Vitalik Buterin made an online AMA for the fans of the Ethereum Chinese community.
Question 1: What conditions are required to become an Ethereum 2.0 node?
Vitalik: 32 ETH and a normal computer should be enough.
Question 2: What if the number of ETH held exceeds 32? For example, if you have 320 ETH, how do you become a validator? Divide into 10 nodes to run?
Vitalik: It is possible to run only one Ethereum 2.0 client. Clients can manage multiple validator IDs. But the more verifier IDs a client manages, the more data that client needs to verify. For example, if you pledge 10,000 ETH, you may need a server.
Question 3: The more data that needs to be stored, does it mean that the same data on the chain, the more times several verifiers vote?
Vitalik: This is the characteristic of sharding. Blocks in a shard are assigned to validator IDs for voting, so if you have a lot of validator IDs, you need to verify and sign more blocks.
Question 4: Do 10 verifier IDs need to keep 10 private keys? Or can 1 private key only need to pass 1 client to manage 10 validator IDs?
Vitalik: 10 private keys are required. But the client can generate multiple private keys with one private key.
Question 5: From this point of view, the staking (pledge) of Eth2.0 should not include the "delegation" part. If you don't have enough 32ETH, you can't delegate it to other nodes in a decentralized manner.
Vitalik: After the implementation of Phase 2 of Ethereum 2.0, smart contracts can be used to make delegations.
Question 6: It means that after Phase 2, how many people can collect 32ETH through one contract and become one validator?
Vitalik: Well, right.
ETH2.0's POS mechanism and revenue forecast
Yesterday (November 24, 2020) the POS mechanism of ETH has been officially launched, and then the miner’s income will be calculated according to the validator’s online time and the number of ETH pledged (one validator means that 32 ETH need to be pledged for about 2 years) .
As of now, the total number of ETH2.0 pledges is 710,000 ETH, and the currency-based annualized rate of return is estimated to be 18.1%. The real-time rate of return information can be viewed at eth2go.com. The progress bar of the total number of pledges is still going, and the target is 11 million ETH, with a yield of 5% (which is much higher than the 0.5% yield of ETH lending in DeFi).
According to the current price of ETH of about 600 US dollars, the total market value of ETH's POS mining market can reach up to 6.6 billion US dollars, corresponding to a revenue of 330 million US dollars, which is not superimposed on the transaction income. At the same time, because becoming an Eth2.0 validator not only requires ETH, but also needs to know how to maintain a node validator, and the threshold for maintaining an Eth2.0 validator is relatively high, so many third-party service providers have seen such market opportunities and also Corresponding services are announced, and a list of third-party services can also be viewed at eth2go.com.
Their main services include the following:
Sell already configured hardware, and participants buy it and plug it in.https://launchpad.ethereum.org/Provide escrow services, participants only need to deposit coins, and do not need to maintain validators themselves.
One-stop validator configuration service.
At present, the services of these third-party services have not yet been substantially stable, but they are all in full swing.
Self-built ETH2 node
Friends with technical ability at this stage can build their own nodes first, and if they encounter a pitfall in the middle, they can send it to the eth2go community to solve it (community administrator VX: eth2go). This is the easiest to use official guide steps:
(just go down step by step)
Recommended options are: Geth/Infura + Prysm
The ambiguous penalty mentioned in the tutorial is this:
In addition to being penalized for going offline, validators can also be penalized for misbehavior, such as proving invalid or contradicting blocks.
How often are rewards/punishments issued? Roughly every six and a half minutes, the network measures the behavior of each validator and issues rewards or penalties as appropriate.
How big are the rewards/penalties? In the most extreme penalty scenario, validators could gradually lose up to 50% (16 ETH) of their stake over 21 days. After 21 days, it will be ejected from the validator pool.
Overall, as long as validators have >50% uptime to achieve net profit, the impact of going offline is not that severe
PS: Infura is used for convenience, and you don’t need to synchronize eth1.0 block information by yourself (the total number of blocks to synchronize Geth is about 180G, so the official recommendation is to configure the hardware with a 200G hard disk), but because there was a bug in Infura some time ago, it is very difficult It’s hard to say that there will be no more disconnection events in the future, and the disconnection will deduct the income. Although I personally think it’s okay, I still recommend you to use Geth.
ETH2GO: ETH2.0 Chinese Service Community
ETH2GO data service community
ETH2GO is a data service platform for the ETH2.0 ecosystem. At present, it mainly focuses on ETH2 POS data and third-party service provider news, and will gradually integrate the latest information of ETH2 and newly released project information based on ETH2 to provide more auxiliary tools for miners and investors.
At present, dozens of ETH2 POS third-party service providers around the world have released service plans. The following figure comprehensively summarizes these service plans, costs, and features: eth2go.com summarizes the information of ETH2.0 third-party service providers that have released news , and describes the costs and features of each type of service:
