Consensus is not just about reaching an agreement, but more importantly, it can change things around.

On November 11, the entire ethereum network went into trouble with a consensus error on the ethereum mainnet.
Users running older versions of geth nodes found themselves stuck in a minority forked chain, and set off a knock-on effect that affected all apps that depended on those nodes.
Most users only became aware of this issue after the Infura API was partially discontinued. Infura is the largest node provider on the Ethereum network, and they provide tools and infrastructure for some of the most commonly used Web 3.0 apps and centralized exchanges, such as Metamask, Uniswap, and Binance.
The Infura out-of-service incident shows that Binance is either relying on Infura's data or running an old node. In any case, neither of these situations seems appropriate for such an important trading platform. (Rhythm note, there was a potential hard fork problem/double spending situation at that time, in order to ensure the safety of user funds.)
While it might seem odd that Infura isn't running the latest version of geth, it's understandable that such a large operator would not be in a hurry to migrate to the latest version. As is the case without such a hard fork, there is no urgent reason to switch from a stable working version to a new unknown one.

To avoid being exploited, consensus flaws are not publicly discussed on Github Issues, so the exact details of the vulnerability are unclear. For those looking for more technical details,Péter SzilágyiSays: There will likely be a report on this issue in the future.
To minimize disruption, the developers of Ethereum decided to hard fork.

For anyone complaining about Infura being out of service, this incident should serve as a wake-up call: keep your nodes up to date. Because once a node is entrusted to another party, it is entirely up to them to decide how to deal with related issues.onlineCurrently Infura has re-hereonline

The interruption of Infura's service has made many of us realize how dependent we are on this single provider. The gatekeeper of the decentralized ecosystem is served by this centralized service provider.
After this incident, both individuals and organizations need to think more about their future development.
We cannot be so dependent on Infura. Due to MetaMask's default dependence on centralized node suppliers, the entire Ethereum network has temporarily become deserted, and the GAS fee is only 12gwei. This is evidence of unhealthy dependence and a clear indication of the potential harm that such dependence can cause.
David MihalIsn’t the failure caused by errors caused by relying on a single centralized organization exactly what we want to avoid in a digital/blockchain society?
We've built a free internet, but handed it over to a handful of centralized institutions - Chrome, Safari, and Brave... We've built an alternative internet, where the original value of anonymity and decentralization remains exists, however we label it the darknet and access is restricted.http://ethereumnodes.comWe cannot allow the same thing to happen to cryptocurrencies.

Today's Infura outage has users scrambling to find another RPC provider. you guys can try this
