One sentence summary: We are helping Ethereum scale
Today, we would like to introduce Aztec 2.0, a Layer 2 network with privacy at its core:
Layer 2 network based on zkRollup, running on Ropsten
Private Transfer by Default - Send your ERC 20 tokens privately
Social Key Recovery Mechanism
Scalable private access to DeFi (Uniswap, etc.)
Compared to Aztec 1.0, the gas usage has been reduced by 200 times
Security by Design: All transactions are verified on-chain
The features above are the result of our top research team. Over the past 15 months, our team has contributed to the community with PLONK and Plookup, now the main standard for zkSNARKs.

privacy now
The classic Layer 2 architecture prioritizes scalability, leaving privacy aside.
Aztec is different. Our research on PLONK led us to discover that zkSNARKs can be used in two completely different ways:
Each transaction is encoded into a zkSNARK to protect user data
The relayer then packages these transactions into batches, and then "rolls up" into a zkSNARK proof (this proof of the validity of the rollup's internal calculations will be sent to Ethereum to achieve scalability )
Using zkSNARK technology, the network can scale on demand up to a hard limit of ~300 transactions per second while preserving on-chain data availability.
Scale across assets
Specifically, private DeFi transactions can be bundled into a rollup with zkDAI payments or Uniswap transactions.
The Noir Programming Language: Private Smart Contracts
Noir is an open source scripting language that allows developers to easily write Aztec 2.0 compatible zkSNARK transactions.

Noir provides tools for developers to write custom logic for mainnet protocols, from DeFi to capital markets to order books.
Noir allows developers to:
Use circuits to call Ethereum contracts
social recovery
Aztec Standard Library - Efficient audited versions of common cryptographic primitives
social recovery

- Aztec Account Structure -
The user account does not need to be associated with an Ethereum address, and no on-chain transaction is required to open an account before receiving funds for the first time.
Human-readable account names can be used - that is, your account name can be @MontezumaII instead of 0x48af9…
Key part:
Account supports multiple keys
Payment keys are separate from encryption keys - this helps compliant applications keep succinct and KYC-compliant records
Reduce gas consumption
Compared with Aztec 1.0, Aztec 2.0 can reduce the gas cost by 200 times.

What Aztec currently offers
Deposit: Deposit tokens into Aztec to cover its tracks
Private Payments: Encrypted Balances and Identities - For All Coins
Withdrawal: Return your assets to Layer 1 anonymously.
Emergency exit: Even if all rollup providers fail, you can exit the system.
All of the above functions can be realized through our software development kit.
- Scalable Private Transactions -
Next step: DeFi
In November, we will upgrade the Aztec network to support scalable DeFi private access. After this upgrade, users can anonymously conduct DeFi transactions at lower gas prices without migrating DeFi protocols to Layer 2.

Example: Uniswap on the Aztec Network
Let's take a look at how DeFi works on Aztec 2.0:
The user converts part of the Dai balance to Ethereum on Uniswap
rollup bundles 100 transactions of the same type into one transaction
The Aztec contract receives Ether on behalf of the user
Ether is held proportionally by pool participants
Every participant benefits from a large anonymity set and only pays a low gas price
yarn add @aztec/sdk
Most DeFi protocols can be integrated this way, and more importantly, use audited Layer 1 code.

The SDK can run in web, mobile and server environments. For detailed examples, please click here to view the online documentation.
