Quick Facts
We discussed EIP-1559 again on AllCoreDevs. DoS attacks are still the main hurdle to eventual deployment, but there are no other big hurdles;
We also have another implementers meeting: Besu and Nethermind are both syncing up with the 1559 testnet, we are debugging consensus issues with Geth, and there is a lot of R&D going on;

implement update
After the last update, a lot of work has been done, only three weeks!
First, we areThe 97th AllCoreDev(EIP-1559 was discussed at the Core Developers Plenary. We shared an update, asked client teams what they thought were the biggest hurdles to 1559, and what the77th ACDWhether these barriers have changed since then.
The good news is that there haven't been any new significant objections to EIP-1559! Minor issues were raised, such as the goal of EIP being a bit unclear (is it to improve UX? Burn transaction fees? Increase throughput?), but no new, strongly opposed points. The Nethermind team has been amazed by the fact that a recent revision of the specification has made implementation so simple.
The bad news is that the risk of denial of service attacks on Ethereum is still a big problem that we need to address before deploying 1559. Fortunately, something likeEIP-2929Such work has now been incorporated into the next short-term testnet YOLOv2, while "flat state databases" such asGeth's snapshot acceleration structure, also helps to solve the problem.
Second, we also opened another1559 Implementers Conference. Several topics were discussed in the meeting: Besu and Nethermind are both syncing on the 1559Clique testnet; Vulcanize is still debugging consensus issues on Geth; work on multiple simulation scenarios is in progress; we are ready to start modifying the JSON RPC specification to support Adapt to the 1559 transaction.
Third, I compiled aMainnet Preparation Checklist, to track the preparation work required before EIP-1559 goes live on the mainnet. I will keep updating the list with new and resolved issues. Since things on Ethereum are almost unpredictable, this checklist should help the community understand what has been done and what needs to be done to get 1559 ready for mainnet.
Our biggest progress so far is to makeProposal #2924are included in this specification. This proposal highly simplifies 1559! Now, by setting the gas price to be the sum of the base fee and tip, we can handle legacy transactions in a way that accommodates 1559 transactions. This means that legacy transactions will not be deprecated (but will be given a little more tip[0] ), so we won't need a transition period, nor will we need to maintain two parallel transaction pools.
R & D update
In this implementers meeting,Barnabé Monnotdetails the progress of his team's simulation work. hisrecordingWorth a listen for more details, but in short, his team is modeling a variety of possible scenarios, from quantifying the UX benefits of 1559, to analyzing how strategically users are trying to get transactions into blocks faster bidding behavior.
andstationnary usersandstrategic users), we can look forward to sharing more notebooks in the coming weeks. The list of planned simulations has been updated toMainnet Preparation Checklistsuperior. For a more in-depth look, see Barnabé last week atTaipei Ethereum MeetupA detailed description of its work is given above.
Another update worth mentioning is Vitalik'sEthereum roadmap centered on rollupEIP-1559 is mentioned in ". EIP-1559 is helpful for rollup, because rollup relies on on-chain transactions for confirmation, and EIP-1559 will make it easier to package the next transaction into a block.
community outreach
As mentioned in the previous update, Ethereum Cat Herders has reached out to several projects in the community, surveyed their views on EIP-1559, and asked them to answer some questions about EIP-1559. Now that Cat Herders has collated the first batch of telephone interviews and questionnaire responses, they have published the first "Community Outreach Report". The report features an overview of key findings and answers to frequently asked questions in the telephone interviews.
For the next edition of the report, Cat Herders would like to speak to more wallet and exchange project teams. If you want to help with this, pleaseconnect with me on twitter。
other updates
Vitalik has published about EIP-1559a new set of slides;
I was on the Bankless video series"State of the Nation", discussed in 1559
I will be participating in EthOnline on October 23"The Future of Ethereum” Summit, 1559 will be introduced at that time.
Follow-up
Hopefully this update won't be too much! If you have any suggestions for updates, please let me know via Twitter (I am@timbeiko )!
As for what's next, here's what you can expect in the coming weeks:
in Geth<> Besu <>There will be more progress on the Nethermind testnet, and hopefully a PoW (Proof of Work) network will be released to test 1559-based mining.
There will be a number of EIPs added to the JSON RPC specification to provide support for 1559.first setAlready published!
Cat Herders will contact more wallet and exchange project teams to collect their views on 1559.
More notebooks for analyzing different scenarios may be released.
That's all for this issue! Thanks for reading, and stay tuned for an update in a few weeks!
[0] By setting gas price as fee cap and tip as feecap-base fee, all "excess budget" will be classified as tip, and in order to adapt to 1559 transactions, tip will be set by the sender, and feecap The difference between -base fee-tip will be returned to the transaction sender.
