Hello everyone, I am Pepe. July 30, 2020 is the fifth anniversary of the birth of Ethereum (of course, if it is more accurate, it should be calculated according to overseas time). Here in the Hot Wheels community, I would like to wish our big Ethereum a happy birthday! Break through ATH as soon as possible!
When it comes to Ethereum, many people think that it is God V who handles it all by himself, but in fact, God V is not the only founder behind Ethereum, especially in the early days when it came out 5 years ago, there were eight male gods with different personalities one after another Participated in the creation, but until today, it seems that only V God is still focusing on the development of Ethereum full-time.
Taking advantage of this auspicious day, here we have specially translated a story about these eight male gods, hoping to give you a deeper understanding of the history of Ethereum.
On June 7, 2014, in a place called Zug in Switzerland, the eight co-founders of Ethereum gathered in a rented house on the edge of a forest called "spaceship". In that very ordinary house, the future of the world's second largest blockchain platform will be determined.
In the early days, none of them signed any labor contracts with Ethereum. The eight brothers all regarded the development of the Ethereum platform as a non-profit project. Later, two brothers withdrew, but logically speaking, this All eight men are among the co-founders of the startup that is now valued at $27 billion.
1. Vitalik Buterin
"They all have personalities and are very self-contained. Sometimes no one can convince the other."
- Mentioned in a later interview by a person close to the team named Russo.
Today, only one of the eight co-founders is still actively working on the Ethereum platform (Pepe’s note: this should refer to the development of Vitalik’s eth2.0, in terms of ecological construction, there is more than one) , but Russo's words also indirectly explained why they couldn't go to the end together, because they were too individual to work together for a long time.
2. Mihai Alisie
Even though times have changed, five years after they started this legendary journey, the vast majority of the eight are still staying in the currency circle, doing the cryptocurrency they yearn for.
V God as we know him was once a 19-year-old Russian-Canadian who created the concept of ethereum in 2013. After exploring the encrypted world for three years, V God wrote the Ethereum white paper, Ethereum Comparison In response to the limitations of Bitcoin, it hopes to build a smart contract platform that may allow any decentralized, censorship-resistant application to execute.
However, according to Russo, God V is not very willing to be the leader of the ether. Of course, time has proved that he is a good spiritual leader. His youth and passion, and such a good idea as Ethereum, make him an inspirational force, and his commitment to Ethereum is unquestionable.
In recent years, he has tried to take a back seat to focus on Eth 2.0 — the next phase of ethereum development that will allow it to scale, though when or if that will take a back seat is still highly debated.
Mihai Alisie, an economics graduate, was teaching and playing poker for a living in Romania when he heard about Bitcoin. He met V God in 2011, established "Bitcoin" magazine, and then worked in a bitcoin wallet project similar to eBay.
3.Anthony Di Iorio
Alizzi helped set up the Swiss base, merged the original company, opened a bank account for the fledgling crypto company (not an easy process), and negotiated with lawyers and Swiss officials on crucial points in the pre-sale event. Negotiate the legal framework.
"It was just a group of people with great ideas and ambitions, but it wasn't clear at the time if it would work," Alizzi said in an interview afterwards.
He was also the vice president of the Ethereum Foundation until late 2015 when he turned his attention to Akasha, an Ethereum-based social networking platform.
Since then, it has not participated in the ecological construction of Ethereum as before, but its social network experiment is taking shape, and it may even be launched simultaneously with Ethereum 2.0 (Pepe Note: This may need to be paid attention to [smile]).
4. Amir Chetrit
Like V God, Anthony Di Iorio (Anthony Di Iorio) is also from Toronto. He is a rich second generation. He got involved in marketing and venture capital very early. Before Bitcoin caught his attention, he invested 1 million Sterling in the geothermal drilling industry. In November 2012, he met V God at a Bitcoin party organized by himself, and he was also the first Ethereum co-founder invited by V God.
But according to Russo's recollection, Di Iorio didn't seem to be as keen on Ethereum's non-profit route as some other co-founders. After this decision was made, he basically took a back seat.
After Ethereum, Di Iorio briefly held the position of Chief Digital Officer of the Toronto Stock Exchange before founding the Jaxx decentralized digital wallet company, which was first launched in May 2018, the same year that Di Iorio Ranked among the top 20 richest people in the cryptocurrency space by Forbes with a net worth of $750 million to $1 billion.
In September 2019, he resigned as CEO and has since shifted his focus to health.
At a bitcoin business conference in Amsterdam in September 2013, V God met the Israeli-American Amir Chetlit, who had given up his computer science degree to dabble in real estate by 2008, when He, like almost every other founder, came to be skeptical of the traditional financial system.
This is why he entered the Bitcoin field. When he met V, he was working with the Israeli startup Colored Coins, which is a project to manage real-world assets in the form of tokens on top of the Bitcoin network. Buterin also participated in this project before. .
In December 2013, he invited Chetlit to join Ethereum.
At the co-founders meeting in June 2014, Chetlitt, who came under fire from developers and fellow co-founders for his lack of commitment to Ethereum, agreed to resign but would remain as a co-founder.
According to Russo's description, he was still silently supporting various blockchain projects afterwards, but he was very low-key and didn't like publicity.
5. Charles Hoskinson (Pepe Note: You should be familiar with this uncle)
Charles Hoskinson (Charles Hoskinson) once wanted to be a mathematician. Because of this foundation, when he encountered Bitcoin, his interest gradually became stronger.
Born in Hawaii and raised in Colorado, he was first introduced to V God by Anthony Di Iorio, when Charles already had some experience raising funds for start-up projects.
He became one of the original five Ethereum co-founders and was appointed CEO in December 2013, leading the establishment of the Swiss foundation and its legal framework.
Charles has always believed that Ethereum should take a profitable route, and has always disagreed with most of the founders, which eventually led to his resignation.
"When he was told to leave, he was very emotional," witness Russo said.
Since then, Charles has continued to support ETC, a hard fork of Ethereum that was born in 2016. At the same time, he also launched Cardano, which has since undergone a major upgrade to the blockchain earlier this month. Cardano has jumped to become the sixth largest cryptocurrency by market capitalization.
He is convinced that Cardano will be the real Ethereum killer, and something that successfully brings decentralized applications.
British computer programmer Gavin Wood (Gavin Wood) was also exposed to Bitcoin by his friend cx in the early days (Pepe Note: The wording is only for a more down-to-earth understanding), and by chance, he read V God Ethereum white paper.
After that, he contacted V God and proposed to write an Ethereum implementation version in the c++ programming language. He met with the first five co-founders in Miami ahead of the North American Bitcoin conference in January 2014, where Ethereum was to be launched.
After being the first person to get an Ethereum testnet up and running, he asked for a promotion to an executive, which some founders agreed to, but others objected to.
In April 2014, Gavin published the Ethereum Yellow Paper, which is the technical specification of Vitalik's white paper. Since then, he has also designed and implemented Solidity, a programming language currently running on Ethereum.
7.Jeffrey Wilcke

Russo said: "Gavin does believe that he is the main builder of Ethereum, and there are arguments to support this. To some extent, he even believes that his role in Ethereum is more important than V."
Mr. Gavin continued to work on the ethereum code in the following years through a company he and his partners founded called Parity. But now he is only focusing on the Web3 Foundation and its cross-chain platform - Polkadot, which is also a competitor of Ethereum 2.0.
8. Joseph Lubin
Another computer programmer, Jeffrey Wilcke, who was working on the Mastercoin project in the Netherlands when he heard about Ethereum, was so intrigued that he decided to quietly use Google's Go language Write an implementation, which in early 2014, Gavin Wood (Gavin Wood) joined the list of company founders.
Wilke started his software implementation—later renamed Go Ethereum, then simply "Geth"—about the same time Wood started his C++ version. However, unaware of each other's existence, they each work independently.
However, after the controversial "hard fork" event, a series of hacks and the birth of his son, Wilke handed over custody of Geth to his assistant and chose to fade out.
Before Lubin became interested in crypto and connected with Anthony Di Jorio through the Canadian Bitcoin Alliance, he worked in a variety of careers in software engineering, music production, business and finance. He was later introduced to Vitalik and invited to join the team of co-founders, di Iorio and Lubin whose deep pockets kept the fledgling ethereum afloat (emphasis added).
epilogue
When deciding to make Ethereum a non-profit organization, Lubin was already planning to set up a for-profit company to build the application layer of the platform (Pepe Note: This is the company behind Ethereum, but profitability is still uncertain for the time being. ).
The company he founded, Consensys, has become an incubator for other blockchain startups and has also played a key role in recruiting influential Ethereum partners — such as JPMorgan Chase, CME Group, Bank of New York Mellon, Swiss Credit, Intel and Microsoft etc.
