Topaz, the ethereum testnet running an upgraded version of ethereum 2.0, has achieved a major milestone. Topaz, a testnet run by Prysmatic Labs, now has 29,300 validators with more than 1 million ETH staked. If it were real ETH, it would be worth $210 million.
Reston Van Loon, CEO of Prysmatic Labs, said:
“We are delighted that Topaz is very active with strong support from the community. This is the first large-scale Ethereum 2.0 testnet where the community controls the majority of validators.”
“Topaz is a fully functional testnet primarily running Prysm nodes from Prysmatic Labs. The 1 million ETH milestone and the high stability of the network give us confidence that Ethereum 2.0 will be able to handle this when Phase 0 launches later this year.” level of activity."
Ethereum is the second largest blockchain by market capitalization. It is undergoing a complex upgrade aimed at improving its scalability, allowing it to process more transactions. It will also change its consensus mechanism to PoS, where users "stake" their funds while keeping the network running.
