Blockchain + games + traditional game giants =?

There has always been a strong connection between blockchain technology and the growing gaming industry. The technology has many potentials to revolutionize the status quo, especially when it comes to purchasing game assets, and there is even a push to put entire games on the blockchain.

Now, Japanese gaming giant Square Enix, the maker behind world-renowned titles like Final Fantasy and Tomb Raider, is backing blockchain’s potential in gaming by investing in ethereum game developer TSB Gaming.

AnimocaBrands, the parent company of TSB Gaming, has announced that it has raised $2.01 million from some notable investors, including SquareEnix, B Cryptos, Mindfulness Capital and True Global Ventures.

Investments take the form of 83% cash and 17% digital assets, namely SAND tokens and simple agreements for future shares.

TSB, one of the largest independent user-generated content and gaming platforms in the world with 40 million downloads and over 1 million monthly active users, is attracting a lot of attention in the blockchain space.

The blockchain version of The Sandbox is a virtual world built on the Ethereum blockchain that allows players to build, own and monetize their own elemental gaming experience.

TSB represents a new type of gaming that, while still experimental, is breaking new ground and piqued the interest of traditional gaming giants thanks to blockchain technology.

Sebastien Borget, COO of Pixowl and TSB Gaming, explained the significance of the recent investment.

He said, "Sandbox is a pioneer in the field of NFTs and true digital ownership in blockchain games, and we are delighted to have Square Enix as our strategic investor, supporting our ambitious vision to build a Metaverse where creators can live in Games are made on their platform, and the market for land and trade assets is completely decentralized."

Introducing such a game to a new market, as well as a game based on nascent technology, presents a special challenge. Therefore, TSB's strategic partnership with Square Enix will go a long way in regulating this new type of game.

Yat Siu, co-founder and chairman of Animoca Brands, said, "Like generations, we grew up playing well-known games such as Space Invaders, Final Fantasy and Breakout, so as legendary games The company is an honor for us. Enix has invested in TheSandbox, and with B Cryptos' investment, we are now one step closer to bringing TheSandbox to the Japanese market."

The convergence of the gaming industry and blockchain technology has attracted a lot of interest for some time. In many cases, large corporations have decided to support the growing gaming space and push it to new heights through blockchain technology.

For example, Ripple, the company behind XRP that focuses primarily on banking and cryptocurrencies, has launched a $100 million fund aimed at integrating blockchain technology into games.
