Since launching Gitcoin Grants a year ago, we've held four rounds of quadratic matching, which uses an interesting formula to amplify individual voices (sometimes matching over 100x) to determine a project's impact on the ecosystem as a whole practicality. When we were looking for a simplified solution to the problem of receiving cryptocurrencies for non-profit institutions, The Giving Block reached out and we are proud to partner with them. We believe that with this infrastructure, even though it is only a small contribution from the crypto community, we can help those public health projects get at least $10,000 in donations that can be used immediately for their work.

Fifth round of Gitcoin Grants

Contributors old and new, here's some information on this round of Grants, which started today (23/03/20) with three matching pools for grantees in three categories.

Public Health - $100,000 to support COVID-19 research, response and recovery projects
Ethereum Technology - $100,000 to support Ethereum infrastructure projects including ETH 2.0, decentralized finance (DeFi), crypto wallets, and most importantly user experience.
Ethereum Community - $50,000 to support media, community, and marketing related projects

All donations will be made using a quadratic matching formula that prioritizes the impact of individual voices over apparent donation amounts. This means that if a large number of people donate to you, even though everyone only donated $1, this $1 donation may get you 100 times or more matches.

Some new caveats(!)

In this exciting new round, we've come up with a few new ideas, here's a sneak peek:

We've added the option to vote down on media rounds (not tech rounds) so that participants can express both positive and negative feedback if necessary.
We've updated the matching formula to introduce a fixed pairwise constant of $25.
We will also adapt the system to support medium and long-term contributions (“regular contributions”) across multiple rounds.

Perhaps most importantly (and easiest), we want you to leave a comment every time you donate, by giving a little of your opinion on Gitcoin Grant, forming partnerships with others, or spotting serendipitous opportunities, which sometimes Probably more important than the money itself.
