Ethereum is off to a great start in 2020, with its daily active unique wallet user base growing by 82% compared to the same period last year.
TRON saw a 33% increase in user numbers in January 2020 compared to the same period last year, while EOS faced a 61% decrease in daily active users compared to the same period last year.
Games and Marketplaces, the largest category on Ethereum, grew 163% compared to last January.
The most popular gaming dapp on Ethereum in January was Brave Frontier Heroes, with 1,240 daily active unique wallets.
TRON’s Dapps have been highly concentrated in the gambling and high-risk categories, accounting for 83% of the total user base.
A good beginning is half the battle. At the beginning of 2020, how are the Dapps of various public chains performing? Has it ushered in a good start? DappRaddar sorted out the data in January and found that the "responses" of each company in the first month were quite different. Compared with January 2019 data, Ethereum’s daily active unique wallets in January 2020 increased by 82%, TRON’s increased by 33%, while EOS’s daily active users decreased by 61%. In January 2020, the user bases of Ethereum and TRON increased, while the user base of EOS was steadily declining.
Ethereum: 163% increase in gaming and market share
Ethereum has been the most important smart contract blockchain in terms of number of active Dapps deployed, depth of development community, growth in user numbers, and value in 2019. The development trend in early 2020 is also good. From the overall data in January, compared with December 2019, the daily dollar value of the Ethereum Dapp ecosystem increased by 39%, and the daily active independent wallet increased by 4% .
Comparing data from January 2020 to January 2019 on the Ethereum blockchain, the data for daily active unique wallets has been very variable, with an increase of 82%, compared to the average on Ethereum as of January 31, 2019 The number of daily active unique wallets is 9264, reaching 16840 in 2020.
Measuring the number of tokens interacting with smart contracts running on Ethereum shows how Ethereum is growing and expanding as a network for creating digital money and financial value. The daily activity of Ethereum in January was quite stable, with an average of about 16,840 active unique wallets per day. The active value peaked at 19,506 on January 8.
Speaking of category comparisons, as of the end of January 2020, the number of daily active unique wallet users in the Games and Marketplaces category tripled compared to the end of January 2019. Overall, users in the aforementioned categories grew by 163%.
The most popular Dapp category on Ethereum is games and marketplaces, which grew by 7%. In particular, the launch of BraveFrontierHeroes brought the number of active unique wallets in this category to 10,467 at the end of the month.
MyCryptoHeroes (My Crypto Heroes) is the most popular game on Ethereum in 2019. At present, this game is still at the top of the list, with an average of 3,660 active unique wallets per day, and a retention rate of 75%.
Another recently launched game is a combination of the mobile game BraveFrontier (Brave Frontier) and the blockchain game MyCryptoHeroes (My Crypto Heroes). On the first day, BraveFrontierHeroes (brave frontier heroes) reached 1240 daily active users, and the number has been increasing. This proves once again that having a large and active community can give a game a head start. As for whether BraveFrontierHeroes will be as popular as MyCryptoHeroes, only time will tell, but its early signs of development are relatively optimistic.
Throughout January, the dapp game KnightStory topped the list with 669 daily active independent wallets. Even though the game ranks in the top 3 on Ethereum, KnightStory only ranks 8th when looking at its cross-chain rankings. The user base of KnightStory is increasing every day, which means that the Dapp is growing steadily.
In addition, another category that everyone is talking about is DeFi, which can be said to be one of the "hot" topics on social media recently. In January, the average daily active unique wallet volume increased by 7%. The number of users increased significantly in the second half of the month, reaching around 1,400.
The decentralized application that has the greatest impact on the growing data of De-Fi is MakerDAO with an average of more than 350 active independent wallets per day, Compound has more than 240, and PoolTogether has about 100 daily active independent wallets.
It is worth mentioning that the Ethereum-based DeFi application PoolTogether, which combines interest income with a lottery system, has recently raised $1 million. It was first released in June 2019, its developers started working on PoolTogether full-time in August, and released version 2.0 in September. The Dapp has seen improvements in January and its user base continues to grow.
EOS: Daily active wallets down 8% in January
2019 has been a volatile year for EOS. At the beginning, the number of daily active independent wallets was in a state of positive growth. However, the ending was unsatisfactory and showed a downward trend. The network congestion caused by the EIDOS airdrop has seriously affected the use of Dapp. As a result, the number of daily active unique wallets continued to decline by 8% in early 2020.
In the gambling and high-risk categories, the user base fell 29%. The top three Dapps that affect this ratio are Gamblr, Dice, and EOSRoyal. Specifically, Gamblr’s daily active unique wallet count fell by more than 10,000, Dice’s user count fell by more than 8,000, and EOSRoyale’s user count dropped by nearly 6,800.
On the other hand, the most popular categories on EOS are games and markets. The top three Dapps ranked by EOS daily activity in January all belong to the game and market category.
The main force driving the growth of this category of games and markets is the three Dapps of EOS Three Kingdoms, Prospector and Encrypted Sword and Magic. EOS Three Kingdoms has an average of 3,751 independent wallets active every day. The EOS Three Kingdoms dapp not only ranks first among dapps in the EOS blockchain, but also ranks first in the cross-chain ranking, with a maximum daily activity of more than 4,000.
Prospector, launched in July 2019, continues to attract more than 2,300 daily active unique wallets. Although, on EOS it ranks second, but in the cross-chain ranking it is fourth. Additionally, last year, Prospector launched on WAX, with around 1,700 unique wallets active every day.
Crypto Sword and Sorcery has an average of 450 unique wallets active every day. Launched in late June 2019, the game is one of the most visually appealing and accessible blockchain games.
In addition, Crypto Sword & Magic ranks among the top 15 blockchain gaming companies in 2020.
TRON: Gambling and high-risk users make up 83% of total user base
The number of users of TRON’s Dapp ecosystem grew by 8% in January. In other words, TRON has a considerable number of daily active unique wallets, with more than 22,000 users in a month. Does this mean TRON can take the lead in daily active users?
The truth is that while the number of daily active unique wallets is growing steadily on the TRON blockchain, it is limited to one category: gambling and high-stakes. As we can see, DAUW is down 7% in other categories like games and markets, and 21% in exchanges. As a mature Dapp ecosystem, TRON still fails to effectively expand beyond the gambling and high-risk Dapp categories.
As mentioned earlier, the “Gambling & High Risk” category has seen an increase in the number of users, so it should come as no surprise that the top three dapps on TRON also fall into this category.
In fact, TRON’s most popular gambling Dapp in January was 888TRON, with more than 2,600 unique wallets active every day throughout the month. The other two gambling Dapps ranked in the top 3 by TRON users are RocketGame and WINk. Although WINk was the most popular gambling Dapp on TRON in 2019, it has now dropped to third place with an average of 1,405 unique wallets active every day.
There are many other categories of Dapps on TRON, which do not fall into the gambling and high-risk categories, and they are easy to launch on TRON, and at the same time, it is difficult to maintain an audience.
