What is the status of active DAPPs in the EOS network?

EOS daily active users drop by 80%

Across the 6 largest smart contract platforms, the report records 1445 new DAPPs launched in 2019, 690 of which are based on Ethereum and 411 based on Tron. The report shows that the two platforms are also starting to lead in terms of user numbers, thereby widening the gap with EOS.

Before November, EOS was the blockchain network with the largest number of daily active users, with an average of nearly 80,000 (79,749) users using DAPP on EOS every day. Since the release of EIDOS, the DAU of EOS has dropped sharply to an average of 15363, an 80% drop.

The daily active EOS DAPPs have also dropped by as much as 30% since November, making the situation worse. Overall, this demise is likely due to the fact that many of EOS' leading DAPPs, including EOSbet and Karma, left the blockchain network to join Wax's platform.

Interestingly, however, in terms of transaction value, EOS generated almost $5 billion in transaction volume, which accounted for almost 50% of the total volume and ranked first in 2019.

Users doubled, but retention was poor

According to the report, the number of active DAPP users in 2019 was 3.11 million, compared to 1.48 million in 2018. While the total number of users doubled, 2.77 million of those were new users in 2019.

And only 348,000 current active users were also active in 2018, implying a 23.5% retention rate, not particularly impressive, or only 11% of current users who have been using since 2018.

The main growth areas of DAPP

One of the reasons for the major growth of DAPPs is the growth of Decentralized Finance (DeFi) DAPPs. Excluding decentralized exchanges, the number of DAPP users in DeFi increased by 610%, and the transaction volume increased by 251%.
