Foreword: 2019 is clearly a cold winter for encryption. Still, projects are being built and things are going on. Among them, the Ethereum ecology has achieved greater development. The most eye-catching is DeFi. In addition, its network, DApp, developer ecology and other aspects are also making continuous progress. In any case, 2020 is more worth looking forward to. Of course, not only Ethereum, but other public chains including Bitcoin, Cosmos, Polkadot, Solana, Harmony, Nervos, EOS and other public chains are continuing to be built. The author of this article is ConsenSys, translated by "CoQi" of the "Blue Fox Notes" community.
DeFi brings hundreds of millions of dollars of value into the Ethereum ecosystem.
1. Internet
Over 520 new decentralized applications were born this year.
Let’s take a moment to analyze Ethereum’s performance over the past year while being optimistic about the future.

New active addresses on Ethereum in 2019: 4,00,000
2. DApp
This year's Ethereum block reward issued Ether: 4,728,152+
Average gas limit increase: about 2,000,000 (from 8,000,000 gas to less than 10,000,000 gas)
Number of active Ethereum nodes: 8,516 (Blue Fox Note: From the perspective of country distribution, more than 20% in the United States, more than 15% in China, and close to 10% in Germany; from the perspective of clients, more than 75% are geth, parity- ethereum over 23% ;)

Number of new DApps in 2019: 520
Bringing crypto to mobile in 2019: MetaMask Mobile, Argent, Coinbase Wallet, and more have all released mobile wallets in the past year
ENS (Blue Fox Notes: Ethereum Domain Name Service) owners buy 1-2 domain names on average, and some "whales" own hundreds of domain names. And (although that data point is no longer precise), there were over 600,000 ENS domains auctioned at one point in time
(Blue Fox Note: This longest Ethereum domain name means, "What good does it do a man if he wins the whole world but loses his soul?" Very philosophical longest Ethereum domain name, this may be this domain name Possessor's most poetic expression)
3. DeFi
One of the most popular DApps on Ethereum: Gods Unchained, 6,714,445 items have been created (Blue Fox Notes: 6,721,354 so far)

DAOs: birth of Moloch, MetaCartel, Ethereum Marketing, and at least 25 other DAOs

The Dai stablecoin runs through the DeFi story in 2019, underpinning a variety of new applications.

000 Dai. During 2019, Dai finally reached the limit of 100 million Dai proposed by Maker governance, which required a vote to increase its supply. The sharp drop at the end of the year simply shows the migration from Sai (original single-collateral Dai) to new Dai (multi-collateral Dai).

Maker Stability Fee: The blue line in the above figure shows that the stability fee went from 2.5% at the beginning of the year to 20.5% at the peak in August, and then finally returned to a more moderate 3%. The annual accumulated stability fee totals 1,640,555Dai. (Blue Fox Notes: Synthetix’s annual accumulated fees exceed $3,431,438+)
This year could see the creation of thousands of Maker Vaults, and the chart below shows some Vaults with a significant amount of collateralized assets at relatively low collateralization ratios (less than 150% collateralization in Maker Vaults will cause them to be liquidated)

Locked assets in DeFi: Over the past year, the amount of assets locked in DeFi has grown dramatically, recently surpassing $650 million. Ether has become the collateral asset of choice for DeFi platforms and applications.

On January 1, 2019, Uniswap had only 31 users, and its daily trading volume was only more than 30 ETH. Nearly a year later, its daily trading volume has reached thousands of ETH. Synthetix, a synthetic asset platform built on Ethereum, saw unprecedented growth in 2019, with its total value locked growing from $1.6 million to $160 million.

4. Developers
Truffle downloads: Truffle has more than 25,000+ new downloads per month in 2019. (Blue Fox Notes: Truffle is a development framework for Ethereum smart contracts)
Hackathons: 8 Hackathons in 2019. Among them, the Virtual Hackathons supported by Gitcoin in 2019 released more than $200,000 in funds. In November 2019 alone, Gitcoin facilitated the transfer of $302,000 in value through its platform, and its platform has transferred over $2,800,000 in total value to date. Gitcoin Quests were participated more than 12,157 times by more than 700 community members.
1 Million Developers Program: ConsenSys is launching a program to bring 1 million developers into the Ethereum ecosystem. More effort has gone into analyzing the developer community this year. In mid-2019, Electric Capital released a report showing that Ethereum’s developer community is 4 times larger than any other crypto ecosystem. With the rise of areas such as DeFi and DAOs, the Ethereum developer community is still expanding.
