Solana nearly stalled this morning, with 28.83% of staked SOL losing connection and 333 SOL in rewards lost

2026-08-12 11:11
Odaily Planet Daily News Marinade Finance posted on the X platform that the Solana network came close to a halt this morning, with 28.83% of staked SOL falling offline, approaching the 33.34% halt threshold, involving 90 validator nodes and resulting in a total loss of approximately 333 SOL in rewards. The fault stemmed from a routing error by service provider Teraswitch: an erroneous route from the Miami node was broadcast to Europe and the Asia-Pacific region, causing 12 nodes (LON1, AMS1-3, DUB1-2, FRA2, SGP1-2, TYO1-3) to lose valid routes, while North America remained unaffected. The issue was resolved within 10 minutes. Marinade Finance noted that AS20326, this ASN, hosts more than a quarter of the network's total staked amount, and during the incident, 94% of its staked volume went offline simultaneously, accounting for an actual 27.34% share, exceeding the 25% cap stipulated by SFDP. Helius, the network's second-largest node, was offline for a full 33 minutes, with only a few nodes achieving smooth failover. Marinade Finance stated it will review the staking concentration cap and push validator nodes to publicly disclose failover capability information.
