Odaily Planet Daily News During his second term, President Trump set a precedent in modern American history by granting amnesty to corporations. To date, nine companies have received pardons, including HDR Global Trading, the parent company of crypto exchange BitMEX. The firm faced a $100 million fine for violating anti-money laundering regulations. On March 27, 2025, Trump signed a pardon order, absolving co-founder Arthur Hayes and three other former executives, as well as the company itself, in the same week the fine was due. Reports indicate that the idea of corporate pardons was first proposed in early 2025, when BitMEX's parent company was quietly lobbying for amnesty. Some White House officials cited the precedent set over 300 years ago by King Charles II of England, who granted pardons to companies.
