Odaily Planet Daily News: The Central Bank of Brazil disclosed that in the first half of 2026, Brazil's crypto asset purchases reached $14.68 billion, a 135% increase compared to $6.24 billion in the first half of 2025. The statistical scope includes transactions of Bitcoin, Ethereum, and stablecoins processed by registered Virtual Asset Service Providers (VASPs).

In June, Brazil's crypto asset purchases totaled $2.54 billion, higher than the $1.48 billion recorded in June 2025. Stablecoin purchases in May approached $2.632 billion, a 158% increase compared to May 2025. Fernando Rocha, head of the statistics department at the Central Bank of Brazil, stated that the country's crypto asset market has passed its initial phase, is expanding, and exploring use cases.

Fernando Rocha said that USD-pegged stablecoins are driving demand growth, with their share of demand exceeding 90%. These stablecoins can be used for payments and cross-border settlements. The Central Bank of Brazil classifies VASPs under Class 3. Effective from January 2027, relevant institutions must comply with the same requirements as securities brokers, securities distributors, and foreign exchange brokerage firms.
