Iranian military spokesperson: Authority over the Strait of Hormuz lies with Iran; US imposition of unauthorized shipping routes violates memorandum

Odaily Planet Daily News According to Iran's Tasnim News Agency, Iranian military spokesperson Akraminia stated on Sunday that, based on the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding, the responsibility for managing maritime traffic in the Strait of Hormuz lies with Iran.

He said the United States' attempt to impose an unauthorized shipping route in the southern Strait of Hormuz violates its commitments under the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding. He noted that Washington has a long history of failing to uphold international commitments, and the same issue exists in the current understanding reached between the US and Iran.

Akraminia added that Iran is working with Oman to formulate a joint navigation arrangement for the strategic waterway, adopting a peaceful and cooperative approach. He stated that US interference undermines regional security and urged Washington to abide by the memorandum, respect regional stability, and take into account the interests of regional countries.

Akbarinia also warned that every time the US attacks Iranian islands, coastal areas, or facilities, it has received a resolute response, and the US action on Saturday night was immediately retaliated against. He further stated that Iran's armed forces have continuously strengthened their combat readiness before and after the ceasefire, using the ceasefire period to enhance military capabilities, while constantly updating operational plans to respond to various situations. He finally warned the US to cease its destabilizing intervention in the region. (Jinshi)
