John Flood: The sharp decline in U.S. stocks is a healthy adjustment, with few buying-the-dip opportunities this year

2026-06-06 15:51

Odaily Planet Daily News: John Flood, a partner at Goldman Sachs and head of the Americas Equity Execution Services business, stated that Friday's sharp drop in U.S. stocks represents a buying-the-dip opportunity. The technical characteristics of this pullback are more consistent with a healthy correction, primarily driven by profit-taking ahead of the weekend and expectations of increased new stock supply. He noted that the recent market pullback resembles a normal correction within a bull market rather than a trend reversal. Concerns remain over inflationary pressures, Iran-related geopolitical risks, and potential uncertainties in the private credit market, indicating that investors have not yet fallen into excessive optimism. Flood stated that the S&P 500 index has a clear path to reach 8,000 points this year, and opportunities to buy on dips are rare. Historically, buying the S&P 500 after a 2% pullback tends to be profitable.
