Vitalik: Ethereum Foundation Should Not Be the Center of the ETH Ecosystem; Will Shift Toward a Small, Long-Termist Approach
Odaily Planet Daily News Vitalik posted on Platform X, stating that the content represents only his personal views. He is not the only member of the Ethereum Foundation board, nor does he hold any special power over other directors. Aya Miyaguchi is leading most of the execution work for this transformation, while he himself is more involved in technical issues. The board is currently expanding, and his influence within the organization will continue to decline in the future. Vitalik stated that the Ethereum Foundation has made several improvements in execution capabilities in 2025, but he has recently been more focused on external criticism that the foundation's values have deviated. Vitalik said the Ethereum Foundation should not be the center of Ethereum; instead, it should be a node with clear responsibilities, existing alongside other nodes. Currently, the Ethereum Foundation holds only about 0.16% of all ETH, which is lower than many large ETH holders. In contrast, the centralized foundations of many other blockchain projects typically control 10% to 50% of their tokens. The Ethereum Foundation will use its remaining resources to pursue long-term viability rather than continuous expansion, which also means selling less ETH. The foundation will focus on matters that are crucial for Ethereum to become a censorship-resistant, control-resistant, open, private, and secure system—things that no one else would do if the foundation did not. Vitalik stated that this means the foundation must make difficult choices, and some currently recognized projects and respected individuals may no longer be part of the foundation system in the future.
