U.S. Military: Attacked While Transiting the Strait, Strikes Against Iran, No Intent to Escalate Situation

2026-05-08 00:03

Odaily Planet Daily News The U.S. Central Command stated that on May 7, when U.S. Navy missile destroyers were transiting the Strait of Hormuz toward the Gulf of Oman, U.S. forces intercepted an unprovoked attack by Iran and conducted self-defense counterstrikes. As the destroyers "Truxtun," "Rafael Peralta," and "Mason" passed through this international waterway, Iranian forces launched multiple missiles, drones, and deployed several small boats. The attack did not cause any damage to U.S. assets.

The U.S. Central Command neutralized the incoming threats and struck Iranian military facilities responsible for the attack on U.S. forces, including missile and drone launch sites, command and control centers, as well as intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance nodes. The Central Command has no intention of escalating the situation but remains postured and ready to protect U.S. forces at all times. (Jin Shi)
