ZachXBT: Law Firm "Free Rider Claims" in the US May Hinder Fund Recovery and Compensation Process for Hacking Victims

2026-05-03 09:31

Odaily News, MegaETH director PaperImperium disclosed on the X platform that court documents from the Southern District of New York show that a US court has issued an injunction against the Arbitrum DAO, prohibiting it from transferring approximately $71 million in ETH assets that were previously frozen during the KelpDAO hacking incident. In response, "on-chain detective" ZachXBT posted on the X platform, stating that certain US law firms are using his investigative work and on-chain forensic results to help some hacking victims file legal claims, but this practice could actually slow down the process for victims to receive compensation or recover funds.

ZachXBT added that in previous hacking incidents involving the Lazarus Group, such law firms typically intervene only after the on-chain fund tracing or freezing has been completed, and then propose subsequent legal actions with weak links to the crypto event itself. They have also employed similar "free rider claim" strategies in incidents such as Harmony and Bybit. He calls on the crypto community to establish a DAO to resist such practices.
