Odaily news, July 24 local time, UN Secretary-General Spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric issued a statement on behalf of the Secretary-General, expressing that Secretary-General António Guterres is deeply shocked by the Houthi rebels' resumption of attacks on commercial vessels transiting the Red Sea and the renewed threat to maritime navigation. The statement noted that such actions could further exacerbate regional tensions and potentially drag Yemen deeper into a regional conflict. It warned that the continued deterioration of the situation in Yemen would undermine prospects for peace and cause severe economic, humanitarian, and environmental impacts both within and beyond the region. Guterres called on all parties to immediately de-escalate the situation and urged the Houthi rebels to cease all further attacks or other escalatory actions, strictly complying with UN Security Council Resolution 2722 and subsequent resolutions concerning the protection of commercial vessels and the freedom of navigation in the Red Sea.
