5000万美元资产被盗报告涉虚假披露，泰国SEC对Bitkub提起刑事投诉

Odaily Planet Daily News: Thailand's Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has filed a criminal complaint against digital asset exchange Bitkub Online and two former directors, Sakolkorn Sakavee and Thaweesap Rawan, alleging false reporting related to a 2021 cyberattack.



The SEC stated that a cyberattack in May 2021 led to the theft of 16 types of digital assets from Bitkub, valued at approximately 1.7 billion Thai Baht, or around $50 million. The regulator claimed that Bitkub subsequently replenished the stolen assets by October 31, 2021, but daily net working capital reports submitted between May 10 and October 30, 2021, did not accurately reflect the asset reduction.



In a post on X, Bitkub stated that the case stems from disclosure decisions made after the May 2021 cyberattack, and does not constitute fraud. The exchange said the delay in disclosing the compromised wallet was to avoid a bank run, and that a co-founder later purchased an equivalent amount of digital assets to cover the stolen funds. As a result, neither the company nor its customers incurred any financial losses.



Founded in 2018, Bitkub is one of the largest cryptocurrency exchanges in Thailand. The parent company of Bitkub is considering a potential initial public offering (IPO), including a possible listing in Hong Kong.
