Analysis: Bitcoin long-term holders (5+ years) have frequently moved BTC recently, with daily UTXO changes exceeding 5,000 coins

2026-07-24 06:17

Odaily reports that CryptoQuant analyst Darkfost has noted a recent increase in on-chain activity among Bitcoin's oldest holders. Data shows that groups of BTC holders holding for 5 to 7 years and 7 to 10 years have had daily UTXO (Unspent Transaction Output) movements exceeding 5,000 BTC on multiple occasions.

Darkfost points out that spending UTXOs does not necessarily mean selling; there are usually two main reasons for long-term holders to move Bitcoin: first, for security reasons, such as changing wallet addresses, which results in UTXOs from the old address being transferred; second, to sell assets. However, based on current on-chain data, a large flow of funds to exchanges has not been detected, so there is no indication yet that these long-term holders are engaging in mass selling of BTC.

Notably, this behavior is occurring as Bitcoin tests the $60,000 level again, similar to market trends from February to March this year. The market will continue to monitor whether long-term holder activity will further impact the BTC supply and demand dynamics.
