Odaily News Japanese convenience store operator Lawson plans to begin testing yen-denominated stablecoin payments in August at its Lawson Takanawa Gateway City store in Tokyo. HashPort has signed an agreement with Lawson and KDDI to conduct the pilot program. Participants will use HashPort's non-custodial wallet, and the store will process payments through HashPort's cash register system without requiring merchants to open or manage crypto wallets. Japanese payment company Netstars has launched Stablecoin Pay, opening applications to merchants who wish to accept multiple stablecoin payments. Initially supporting USDC, USDT, and the yen-denominated stablecoin JPYC on Solana and Polygon networks, with MetaMask as the supported wallet, the merchant transaction fee is set at 0.98%.
