Iranian military spokesperson: Control of the Strait of Hormuz lies with Iran, US imposing a shipping lane violates the memorandum

Odaily星球日报讯 According to Iran's Tasnim News Agency, Iranian military spokesperson Akraminia stated on Sunday that, based on the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding, the responsibility for managing maritime traffic in the Strait of Hormuz lies with Iran.

He stated that the United States is attempting to impose an unauthorized shipping lane in the southern Strait of Hormuz, which violates its commitments under the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding. He pointed out that Washington has a long history of failing to fulfill international commitments, and the same problem exists in the current understanding reached between the US and Iran.

Akraminia added that Iran is working with Oman to develop joint navigation arrangements for the strategic waterway, taking a peaceful and cooperative approach. He stated that US interference undermines regional security and urged Washington to comply with the memorandum, respect regional stability, and take into account the interests of regional countries.

Akbariyan also warned that every time the US attacks Iranian islands, coastal areas, or facilities, it receives a resolute response, and the US action on Saturday evening was immediately retaliated against. He further stated that the Iranian armed forces have continuously strengthened their combat readiness before and after the ceasefire, using the ceasefire period to enhance military capabilities while constantly updating operational plans to deal with various situations.
