2026-07-12 06:07

According to Odaily, on July 12, Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Baghaei provided an update on the Iranian Foreign Minister's recent visit to Oman and the talks held there. On July 11, the Foreign Ministers of Iran and Oman held talks in Muscat, the capital of Oman, where they discussed a coordination mechanism for navigation and traffic management in the Strait of Hormuz, with legal and technical delegations from both countries participating. Baghaei stated that the two sides focused on exchanging views regarding ensuring safe navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, respecting the sovereign rights of both countries, and the application of international law, as well as discussing Article 5 of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding. The Iranian side emphasized that future arrangements for navigation management in the Strait of Hormuz should be developed through consultations between Iran and Oman, taking full account of the impacts from the military actions of the United States and Israel against Iran over the past few months, and their effects on the safety of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz. Baghaei also noted that Iran and Oman have agreed to continue consultations at the political, legal, and technical levels to reach a mutual understanding on the safety of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz. It was reported that a delegation from the Qatari government also participated in parts of the discussions. (CCTV International News)
