Serenity: AMD is Actively Securing CW Laser Supply, Potentially Signaling the Onset of Upstream Supply Bottlenecks
Odaily reported that Serenity stated a TrendForce report indicates AMD is securing CW laser supply through multiple major procurement orders, which may signal that related supply bottlenecks are beginning to emerge. Serenity noted that there is limited remaining independent production capacity in the Western supply chain, with little room beyond SIVE, AAOI, and possibly Macom, especially after Lumentum and Coherent signed multi-year agreements with Nvidia, further locking in related capacity. Serenity also added that Lumentum has already been constrained by CW laser supply and may be procuring from Japanese companies such as Sumitomo and Furukawa, which are also likely operating near full capacity. Following long-term agreements signed by Nvidia and AMD, hyperscale cloud service providers such as Amazon and Microsoft may also attempt to lock in capacity.
