David Sacks responds to Anthropic’s “safety controversy” sparking regulation: the core conflict is that the vulnerability has not been fixed

Odaily, Co-chair of the President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology, David Sacks, responded to the regulation sparked by the Anthropic “safety controversy,” stating that he has communicated with multiple parties regarding the current situation with Anthropic. He summarized that the core of the current incident lies in the safety controversy triggered by its newly released model, “Fable” (the commercial version corresponding to the Mythos class of models). Although Anthropic publicly stated that the vulnerability is “not serious,” the U.S. government and testers disagree with this assessment, believing it is sufficient to affect the model’s safety and even involves the risk of “cyber weapon operability.”

David Sacks further criticized that Anthropic has always emphasized “safety first,” but this time it is more inclined to keep the consumer version online continuously rather than prioritizing fixing the safety issue. He said this matter should not be conflated with other previous defense or regulatory controversies, and stated that the U.S. government still recognizes Anthropic’s technical capabilities. The current problem “could have been quickly resolved, and the initiative lies with Anthropic.”
