Threshold Network: Successfully Blocked Attempt to Maliciously Mint tBTC

Odaily Odaily reports that Threshold Network posted on X platform, stating that on May 18, 2026, a malicious attacker attempted to mint tBTC without depositing underlying Bitcoin. The attempt was unsuccessful, no invalid tBTC was issued, and user funds were not at risk.
As a precautionary measure against high-frequency malicious activities in the broader crypto ecosystem, Optimistic Minting has been temporarily suspended. Currently, minting operations proceed through a liquidation mechanism, with typical minting times increasing from approximately 1.5 hours to around 6 to 7 hours.
